Malengo Ambassadors

On 2nd July 2016, Uganda’s first fashion show inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals agenda with specific reference to Global Goal 10 for Reduced Inequalities took place with models across physical  abilities walking the runway.

So far we have models who are amputees (majorly post war victims), persons with albinism, dwarfism, burn victims, wheelchair users, deaf & hard for hearing as well as able bodied models. The vision is to grow into an ambassadorship whereby the fashion show showcases models representative of all physical & intellectual abilities by 2030.

Malengo Ambassadors is one of our biggest inclusion outreach platforms, created to groom both children & youth across different physical, mental, intellectual, developmental and abilities working together with a common goal in mind, towards the social inclusion of Persons with disabilities as a critical facet of our global goal 10 agenda for Reduced Inequalities across young people on the continent. Our young ambassadors are passionate a number fields ranging from Fashion & the Arts, Human Rights, and social inclusion of Persons with disabilities to mention but a few.

It involves a well trained support staff to assist our models with challenge to integrate seamlessly into the various  fashion, Style & Arts platform. For example, our backstage support staff comprises of sign interpreters to assist our deaf & hard for hearing models.

It’s mission is to creatively spark the conversation among youth across Africa about working towards a society that is adaptive towards the needs of all people at all levels of society. Africa is the second most populous continent in the world with a bulk being youth, and in order for no youth to be left behind we must stand to empower & validate the existence of all young people irregardless of their abilities.

SUPPORT OUR GIRL 50-50 PETITION TO CLOSE THE INEQUALITY GAP BETWEEN GIRLS WITH DISABILITIES & THOSE WITHOUT DISABILITIES IN AFRICA

GIRLS WITH DISABILITIES MATTER!

GIRL 50-50 IS AN ESSENTIAL PREREQUISITE TO ACHIEVING PLANET 50-50 IN AFRICA.
While we do acknowledge that there are current studies on issues pertaining to curbing the marginalization of girls with disabilities in Africa, we argue that there is not enough comprehensive information as to how the disparities & gaps between opportunities available to girls living with disabilities as compared to those living without disabilities will directly impact the overall success of the planet 50-50 agenda in Africa by 2030. The Global Goals are two years in, so we must put the issues pertaining to disparities between girls living with disabilities as compared to those without at the forefront of gender & human rights discussions. We must put this disparity at the forefront of discussions of the success of the planet 50-50 agenda in Africa. No group of girls should be left behind! No Girl should be left behind!
